PA's Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) plans to drastically change the management of Big Elk Creek park from low impact preservation to high impact recreation including construction of a large campground with RV’s and cabins or yurts.
Our Commonwealth and our precious natural resource have nothing to gain and much to lose should we allow DCNR to proceed.
DCNR's high impact recreation plan will result in:
-
Increased pollution entering Big Elk Creek, one of four major watersheds in Chester County that drain into the Chesapeake Bay
-
Increased light, sound, and air pollution
-
Increased negative impact on the park's vegetation including 15 endangered or rare plant species
-
Increased runoff and decreased absorptive capacity of the soil
-
Increased negative impact on the park's wildlife including rare species such as the Regal Fritillary butterfly and short-eared owl
-
Misappropriation of limited resources and taxpayer funds meant for preservation, instead being utilized for the alteration and destruction of the very ecosystem those funds are intended to preserve.
Our State Park is Under Attack
With your help, we will stop DCNR's plan.
Together, we will SAVE BIG ELK CREEK!
